Well, yesterday (Sunday) there was a race from Paris Ontario Canada yo
Ancaster Ontario Canada a distance of about 60 kilometers.
It was for mtbs and cyclo-cross bicycles. There was paved roads, dirt
roads and a nice section of single width rail-trail. The entrants were
capped at 2000 riders.
A few friends and I were hoping to spectate at the event. However
there were no route maps of the race available prior to the race. The
website said it was because some sections of the course were on
private property.
I thought it was too bad that a route map was not available so that
potential spectators could pick a spot on advance to watch the riders
from. In my opinion a route map would have gone a long ways to
increasing the number of spectators. As it was the only places that
were mentioned werethe start, mid-point feed station and the finish
but no routes between them.
Just wondering if most races do or do not have route maps of the
course so potential spectators would know where to go to view it. It
seems to me that by not providing a route map the Paris to Ancaster
Race lost a great chance to bring a number of potential spectators and
new fans to the sport.
Is it normal not to publish a route map for the public for a bicycle
race?
