Paradigm 511/512 Battery Life

if you use the remote i have heard battery life can be short.

i have a 511 & was told i was getting a remote but never received it. no great loss because my hairy
legs and deep voice keep me out of the womens department stores.

some times the battery alarm goes off after a week but most of the time its 6 weeks or a
little less.

i like the 511 except that NOW they say its NOT water proof. they have one week to answer a letter
before a court date is set. to bad because i do like the unit.

(Juan=A0Antonio) I heard from a MiniMed 512 user that the battery life they get is 2 or 3 days to 1
week. My average with the 511 has been 1 month per battery, and I am running pretty high basals,
using the backlight often, and using the vibrate feature, which should all take more battery life. I
spoke with MiniMed and was told that they only expect battery life of 1 week on the 511 and 512. I
was wondering what you all get for your battery life. Because I am considering upgrade to the 512, I
am concerned that my battery changing may go from once a month to once a week, which seems a little
excessive to me. Does anyone know if the 512 uses more battery power, perhaps because of the Link to
the BD meter? Now the rant! I am a little appalled that MiniMed would change from a battery 'system'
that was working well to this. With the 357 batteries, I could get at least a month, if not 2 or 3,
of use. MiniMed, of course, has an answer to this, claiming that the batteries used in the 511 and
512 are cheaper. At only $9 for 3 of the 357's, and only having to change them once every month or
two, I think this was the easier option. Also, if an AAA battery costs $1, then you are still
spending $8 every two months anyway.

I typically get about 3-4 weeks out of a battery in my 512. But this is probably on the high end,
since I seldom use the features that reduce battery life.

Things that will shorten battery life:

- Using a lot of insulin.
- Vibrate mode.
- The backlight.
- The remote control*
- The link from the BD meter*

* These items reduce battery life if you have them enabled in the pump, even if you don't use them.
This is because the pump has to be constantly listening for them.

I get 3 weeks on the battery, I only use the recommended energizer.
