  1. I'm looking to paint my rims yellow....trust me, it'll look cool...well I hope. mind you I have no painting experience. I just tried doing it by hand with some acrylic paint and I'm just getting some streaking and not a good coat.

I realize it's impossible to paint any smooth surface, so do y'all suggest I sand down the rims? I just want to make sure it'll work, before I mess it all up.

    Any other suggestions?

    I can't afford to buy a new powder-coated wheelset.

Why don't you pay to have 'em powder coated? It doesn't cost that much.

Aluminum is a bit tricky to paint with good results. If you insist you should start off with an etching primer, which you should be able to get from a good car parts store.
