I have got myself a new bike and I have invested a lot of
thought and effort to get it just like I wanted it,
including choosing between 200 colors of paint for the
frame. To my eye the paint job is fine. BUT .... I am afraid
the paint isn't as hard and resistant as it should be. I put
colored electricians tape on the frame, where the cable
shoes touch it - but at one spot I did not place the tape
accurately enought, so there has been a wear on the paint
for two weeks/ 500 km. And already the paint is worn off
complely on that particular spot. I tend to interpret that
as an indication of the paint beeing too soft. And since I
spend 2600 Euro on the bike - 900 was for the (painted)
frame alone - I would expect the paint job to be of a good
quality. I have seen cable wear on the paint on my other
bikes, but never this soon. But I am ignorant of the
different qualities of paint jobs, and I don't know what to
ask for or to look for. So I need help: Does the rubbing of
a hole in the paint after 500 km indicate a poor paint
quality? Am I right in expecting a better quality on a 900
euro frame? If the shop owner says this was the quality I
paid for, should I hurry to have it repainted with at clear
and hard paint, while the colored paint is still new? I
would appreciate some of the exeprienced advice I have found
before in this group - or maybe a link for my further
education.
