I started touring around oz in feb this year and have ridden around 10000km in this year... made it to mt isa with minor bike issues that caused minor delays... the last problem has ben a real kick up the bum...
i awoke to start a days work in the isa during a break only to feel a pulsating throbbing pain as if i had snapped my coccyx... i went to the doctor only to find that my self diagnosis of pilonidal sinus was correct (thats ingrown hairs around your coccyx)... the result is that i am to go under the knife next thrusday... recovery from this minor op is over 6 weeks and it will delay my tour quite substantially... you might be wondering why i am being quite so explicit...
this is the 2nd time i am to undrgo this op and both times have been when i have lifted my kilometres to over 500k a week... i am not sure of the exact cause but understand that this is common among cyclists... my belief is that a good saddle might stop this problem recurring and am wondering if anyone has any advice on the matter... i intend to finish the cycle after recovering or start the trip again next year... it has been amazing so far and would hate to have to stop due to the noncompliance of my hair downunder...
if anybody can reccomend good saddles, sitting positions, preventions or personal anecdotes that will help me it would be appreciated... i refuse to let this [censored] stop me from living my passion... any help, comments or bad jokes would be appreciated...
thanks from a determined tourer
