At the weekend we did a 15 stage multi Geocache where the first 8
caches had half of the Co-ordinates to the next 4 which had half the
coordinates to the next 4 which each had one coordinate to the last
and final cache.
Since I'm in the UK my Ozi maps were produced by scanning parts of the
OS 1:25000 maps I have of the areas where the caches were located.
My maps were calibrated using OS grid intersections with my map datum
set to British National Grid (BNG)
For the 1st 8 caches the co-ordinates were for the actual cache
location and for each of the 2nd & 3rd stage cache locations the
coordinates on the Geocaching site were for a suggested car parking
location all these waypoint were based on WGS84
I entered these locations on OziExplorer on my PC with the waypoint
datum set to WGS84
So far all was OK and when I copied my maps and waypoints over to the
SD card I use with my Ipaq all these waypoints were in the right
place.
However when out in the field and I entered the 2nd stage coordinates
that we found in the caches the waypoints turned out to be quite a bit
out - we were also using a Garmin Etrex as our main GPS
I've just experimented with entering the 2nd stage cache coordinates
into Ozi on my main PC and the waypoints come up to where we found the
caches, but on Ozi on my Ipaq they aren't in the same place.
On the main PC if I set the datum for the waypoint to BNG then the
waypoint moves to the wrong place, exactly where it is on the Ipaq.
It seems that creating a waypoint on OziPocketExplorer automatically
uses the datum of the loaded map, I can't find a option to make it
create a waypoint and use a different datum - in this case WGS84
It's not a problem if I'm exporting waypoints from my main PC but
creating waypoints on the fly isn't doing what I want.
Anybody know of a work around for this
