What the heck are you Texans drinking these days?
It must be the cactus juice.

I've been to the site of the Marfa lights... :-)
Spent the night there.
Fascinating, and no explanation!
They kinda looked like headlights to me, but they were there long before
there were cars........

THis is reminiscent of the Brown Mountain Lights in North Carolina. There
was even a song written about them. To this day thte Brown Mountain lights
appear; they've were studied a few years ago by a team of scientists and
still cannot be explained. As you say with the Marfa lights, from a
distance they are reminiscent of headlights but have been observed since
long before automobiles. Legend has it that in the horse and buggy days a
slave was driving his master through the mountains when there was a
terrible accident; the slave was killed and the master was never found. To
this day the trusty old slave still lights his lantern every night and
wanders the Brown Mountains searching for his master ...

Here's a link to info about the Brown Mountain Lights if anybody's curious.
I grew up with the legends becase my uncle is from Morganton, NC, near
Linville Mountain where the lights occurred and he would tell us the stories
about the "lights that would appear and move about in a ghostlike manner."
He was also an authentic NC mountain "hillbilly" singer and guitar player,
and he would sing us the song that embodies the legend.
