following interesting. At least we know that something
worthwhile is being researched comparing LC and LF.
THE METABOLIC IMPACT STUDY:
Researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine are
conducting a study to compare the weight loss and health effects
of a very low carbohydrate diet and a low fat diet on:
1. Overweight Men 35 Years And Older*
2. Overweight Women Who Are Postmenopausal (Haven’t Had Their
Menstrual Period In At Least 6 Months)*
3. Participants should be at least 25-30 lbs overweight but not
more than 250 lbs (the limit of the MRI machine).
4. Not uncomfortable with having their blood drawn or being in
MRI machines.
COMPENSATION:
$750 for completing 12 week study. The Albert Einstein College of
Medicine is a non-profit organization.
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE METABOLIC IMPACT STUDY:
Study participation is for 12 weeks. This is a very rigorous,
intense study that requires multiple blood samples and MRIs. It
includes multiple clinic and overnight visits to the clinical
research center, metabolic studies and muscle biopsies.
Volunteers are provided with nutrition counselling, and
motivational support as well as pre-prepared lunches and dinners
at no cost.

EVEN MORE DETAILS:
During the 12 weeks of the study, participants will be on a low
fat diet for six weeks and low carbohdyrate diet for six weeks.
During that time, they may not taste or eat any foods that are
not specifically part of the study diet.
•Participants can expect to lose approximately 12-15 pounds
during the 12 week study.
•Participation will include a weekly nutrition visit to the
Albert Einstein College of Medicine which is located in the North
East Bronx (near Orchard Beach)
•Participation will also include 9 days of hospitalized
measurements in the 12 week study. These measurements are done
as: 3 days at the beginning of the study; 3 days in the middle of
the study and 3 days at the end of the study.
