From my dad:
Dubya is touring local schools in the US of A, to show he cares about
domestic policy too. He gets into serious and sincere mode and talks
about terrible tragedies, though he stops and asks the class if they can
give him an example of a tragedy.
A wee lassie puts up her hand: "Mr. President, it would be a terrible
tragedy if our brave soldiers in Iraq dropped a bomb on a busy market
full of innocent people while aiming at nasty terrorists!"
"Well, that would actually be more of an /accident/, than a tragedy.
What about you, little boy, can you tell me an example of a tragedy?"
The boy thinks and suggests it would be a tragedy "if an earthquake in
Pakistan killed tens of thousands of poor people". "No, says the
president, that would be a great loss, though".
Another little girl puts her hand up, and the president asks for her idea.
"If Air Force One was shot down by a missile and crashed into a church,
killing the President and the First Lady and all their loyal staff, and
a congregation of right wing American creationists then that would be a
Tragedy"
"Very good, that would indeed be a tragedy. And how did you know it was
a tragedy little girl?"
"Well Mr. President, it wouldn't be an accident and it wouldn't be a
great loss..."
Pete.
