OT: GPS with Autoroute 2007

It's not just a question of getting the ports right, you have to get the
data format right too. You can change the way the data is sent from the GPS
in the appropriate setup option (Menu - Menu - Setup - Interface). There's a
choice of serial data formats there. It needs to be set to whatever
Autoroute expects. It may be configurable in Autoroute too, I don't know.

The only GPS options in Autoroute are

'GPS sensor selection to show the GPS sensor when pane is closed.'

'Locate me'

'Navigation screen options.'

None of these provide any help in connecting the GPS.

Looked on my GPS Interface Setup. That either gives me access to the USB
mass storage device ie, the GPS becomes a drive on my PC.

And the other shows a 'connected' legend, with no option to select this.
There are no other menus available when the Interface setup page is
displayed on the GPS.

Cheers anyway Paul. I will have a look around the Microsoft site area for
the program, and check for info on compatibility.

Autoroute, but this is Usenet so why let no knowledge of the facts put
me off?)

I connect my mobile phone to my laptop using a USB cable. However, my
dial-up software demands a COM Port and gives a list of COM1, COM2 etc
upto about COM9. I was able to see, in Windows Device Manager, that
my phone was being regarded as COM5 - even though it was plugged into
a USB port rather than the standard 9-pin serial port.

Have you looked in Device Manager (or whatever Vista has) to see if
your GPS has a COM port number in its properties?

If it does, you may be able to tell Autoroute which COM port it is to
look for the GPS on.

I have a feeling that, originally, my mobile phone appeared on COM11 -
which was not an option in my software. Somehow I managed to change
it to COM5 ....... but I can't remember how.

I hope that helps...... but it probably won't!

Not looked there yet ..... and Windows Vista has a Device Manager. It will
be my next 'port of call' for the fault finding. I must admit, I often
visit the Device Manager for solving/investigating problems ......... but
