  1. Nothing to do with cycling, except that I ride past it on the way to work.
Some berk in Hull City Council has decided to waste 650 000 quid on a giant
TV in the centre of the city. I rode past it one bleak Sunday morning at
0545 on the way to work and it was still turned on showing the Para Olympics
as it happens. Cycling it was, just to veer on topic.

I had a letter published in the local paper saying what a waste of
electricity it was having it on at that time. Some wag replied that they
should leave it tuned to ITV's "Job Finder" in the middle of the night so
the local dossers might get some use out of it!

Mind you the council did save some money on removing the clock on top of the
town hall so saving the maintenance costs. They replaced it with a meat and
potato pie . When the above councillor was asked in what way the pie could
replace the clock, he said that when you look up at it, you can see that
    it's "summat te ate"

Our West Yorks readers will get that :-)

Yes, I haven't seen any fake letters recently, he's probably been
rumbled and has now gone onto sending stuff to cyclist's addresses
    direct.
