  1. Hi Does the OS have a policy as such as to where a label is placed on a map? That is, is the label
    usually to the RIGHT of the exact spot? This is important when trying to locate historical sites.

    When I was a draftsman in Carto at OSHQ the policy was to place the name to the right if at all
    possible without obliterating detail. The second option was to place to the left, then above, then
    below IIRC. Not sure if these rules are still followed but that's how we used to do it.
