Im thinking of buying a new bike, the Orbea Opal. Does anyone know much about this particular bike and about its sizing. Im just under 5ft 10..so im thinking a 54cm frame should be ok. Unfortunately I cant get a chance to try it before I but as its an online store. Any info would be great.

I'm 5'10" with a 32" inseam and ride the 54cm Opal with a 135 mm stem and a BB center to seat top height of 74cm which translates to a pretty reasonable seatpost. But I also like bikes to fit on the small side and never liked larger frames coupled with short stems that give me the same overall position.

The Opal's a great ride btw.

Good luck,

If ya gotta use an 'online' store, can you have a local fit person check the sizing on a fit cycle of the various sizes? BTW-I am 5'10.5" and ride a bike with a 57cm top tube. My Moots is a '57'. Sizing, like '54' mean little. Top tube length and seat tube angle are the important dimensions.

I too am 5'10 and ride a 54 Orbea, I think you should be good to go.

+1. TT length is better to use as a target dimension than "frame size". Ordering online without fitting the bike is a bit risky IMO. The size 54 may be "OK", but a 56 might be a better fit, and you won't know until after you've bought the smaller size. The 54 may give you too much drop from saddle to bars, or need an extra-long stem to give you the room you want.

I rode a "56" bike for many years with the seatpost up to the limit, and it was never really comfortable for me. Got the bike on a close-out special; the salesman convinced me it was a perfect fit for the crit racing I was getting into. It did look racy with all that seatpost showing though :)

Orbea sizes are 54 and then 57, the top tube on the 54 is 55.5 and the 57 is much larger so if you are going with an Orbea it's pretty safe to say that you would be a 54.
