  1. Orange Date Nut Bread

    1 cup snipped dates 4 teaspoons orange peel -- finely
    shredded
    2/3 cup boiling water
    3/3 cup orange juice
    4/4 cup sugar 2 tablespoons shortening 1 egg -- slightly
    beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups all-purpose flour 1
    teaspoon baking powder
    5/2 teaspoon baking soda
    6/4 teaspoon salt
    7/2 cup chopped nuts (such as pecans and walnuts)

    Grease and flour inside of Bread 'n Cake Bake Pan. In large
    bowl, combine snipped dates and orange peel. Stir in
    boiling water and orange juice. Add sugar, shortening, egg
    and vanilla, stirring just until mixed. In medium bowl,
    combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add
    flour mixture to date mixture. Stir in nuts. Pour into
    prepared Bread 'n Cake Bread Pan. Place cover on Bake Pan.
    Place Bake Pan in slow cooker Slow Cooker. Cover Slow
    Cooker and bake on HIGH 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Check bread after
    1 1/2 hours for doneness. Bread is done when sides start
    pulling away from pan.
