  1. Hi There

I saw there was a query for Orange and Date Bread.

I have an old recipe book called Sunshine Recipes with a
recipe for Orange Bread - I checked the ingredients and it
has dates in it as well, so here goes:

    1 medium orange
    2/3 cup dates, pitted
3/2 cup walnut meats 2 tablespoonfuls butter
    4/2 cup hot water
5/4 cup sugar 1 egg beaten 2 cups flour
    6/4 teaspoonful salt
    7/2 teaspoonful soda and
    8/2 teaspoonful baking powder

Cut whole orange (peel and pulp) into 6-8 sections. Put
orange sections, dates and nuts through mincer. Add hot
water and butter. Pour in well-beaten egg. Sift flour, salt,
baking powder, soda and sugar. Add to fruit mixture. Bake in
greased loaf pan in moderate oven (350 F) for 11/4 hours.
Cool thoroughly before slicing. Serve with orange marmalade
or cream cheese balls which have been rolled in grated
    orange peel.
