There may be some room for drive train efficiency improvements that will increase overall efficiency.

Krikey, yes... if you look at the convoluted drivetrains of the "speedbikes" running at the WHPSC this week, you'll see some of the lengths the builders go to in order to cram a rider into a streamined shell.
