  1. With the on set of the wet weather I am in need of a new backpack. My
current one was fine for the dry weather but now it's starting to rain
everything in the bag gets soaked. It's main property has to be its
water/weather proofness. Its mainly used for commuting but also
occasionaly gets used on the trails so sealing up tight is a must
because I don't wish to lose the contents of my bag. But nothing to
bulky because storage space at work is at a premium. Any
reccomendation would be taken into consideration.
    Many Thanks for your advice.

I have a Karrimor that I'm very happy with, but for riding MTBs I prefer a
courier bag. They cost more, but good ones are totally waterproof.

    [snip]

The tradiional solution is to put the contents into a plastic bag
    inside the backpack

The cheap variant to this is to get a 'Back to School' backpack from
Woolworth's (have fair reflective piping too) and put your plastic bag
    inside this.

Woolworth's bags are fairly water-resistant too...
