And people like you probably make Nike sick. They go and do something 100% generous and donate money when they sell a product. Then people complain that they're not donating enough. How about performancebike (random example)? They aren't donating ANYTHING. I don't see you griping about them. How about you, how much have you donated?

When business provides any type of service, it's a privilege to you, not an obligation. And with donating money, it's going even further than providing a service. And you still complain about it. They don't have to donate anything, or sell you anything, just so you know. It's a privilege to others, not an obligation.

Hey man, I've donated money and time to stuff like this, so watch it. I think clothing is a big step up from a rubber band. I'm glad they're doing this for cancer research/awareness, but I'm just comparing clothing to a wrist band.

Does Performance have LA? No.

I'm sure Nike hates me, I buy their products.

On a side note, it's not 100% generous, there are others motives. Like looking good in the public eye, name recognition, people want to buy their products for the cause. Nike is a business and they need to sell their product(s).

But whatever, I love Nike products, they make good goods. I'll still buy 'em.

I'd have to agree with Sparknote on this one, and I'm not much of a Nike consumer. They don't exactly need my business.

Is donating funds a purely generous, selfless act when it comes from a big company? Sheesh, of course not. Of course they benefit from it in terms of corporate image, and it's possible they'll even experience expanded sales--though that's never certain. Seeing as we're talking about a business, though, it's strange to find fault in that. It's not as though an organization presenting itself as a charity is slyly making a legitimate profit off of a collection effort; it's an unabashedly commercial organization, announcing plans to incorporate a charitable cause into their business effort.

It's still, in other words, a business effort. I doubt anyone in the Nike communications and PR department would deny that.

That said, I'm having trouble fathoming what the problem is. Would you be more satisfied if they kept the LA Foundation at arms length?
