"One" train company removes charges

doorway. This was said the other morning on the announcements for a
train in the supposed "no go" period into London.

Perhaps things are changing - after all its an easy win in trying to
promote an environmentally responsible image which is what many
companies seem to be trying to do these days.

That's nice to know.
It brings into the fare manual the unofficial nice gesture from some
branchline guards of failing to notice your bicycle, even if pointed out to
them when buying a ticket.

I felt First Capital Connect made a terrible start to cycle handling
after they took over from WAGN, with on-train staff moaning at cyclists
and the introduction of more time restrictions. FCC's Fen Line stations
have a mix of insecure (Lynn outside) and overcrowded (Lynn inside, Ely,
Cambridge) cycle parking. I think the realistic solution is to make
it easier to take cycles with you on trains if you want, as all of the
stops on the Fen Line are pretty easy cycling, and to put long runs of
bike parking on bits of the platforms that won't be used until TL2000
(if ever).

Well done to one/LER for dropping their bike charges: hopefully the
service will be maintained, although the faster/nicer Turbostars seem
to have less cycle space than the trains (Sprinters?) they replaced.
