I have been sampling many of the latest cycling apparel garments and
noting their aithentic innovations vs. hyped claims. I have to say
that I am surprised at how many garments have lived up to the promises
of the ads and in many cases they have exceeded my expectations.
One item that I have wanted for years is a vest or light windbreaker
that is thin enough to carry in a jersey pocket while still reducing
the wind chill at the front with the back beng aither the same
material or lighter. I have only 1 vest with light fabric on the front
and mesh for the back. I like it very much for those days when I am
leaving during the cool part of the morning but will be hitting very
hot weather before the end. Sadly, this vest is not all that effective
and is only really useful on a few rare occasions. In colder weather I
need either a warmer but thicker polar fleece vest or a rain jacket
that is too heavy to fit in my pocket. IOW, when the weather warms up
I still have to wear it and all I can do is unzip. This really
influences faster sections of the ride with a heavy vest or jacket
flapping around in proportion to my speed.
After seeing so many new garments that among other features, use very
light and thin fabrics it occured to me that there are likely some
nice wind-breakers too, that would be appreciated by me and most other
riders who ride even when the weatehr is imperfect.
The bottom line is I would like some suggestions for a wind-breaker
that is light enough to put in a rear pocket without the need to climb
off and stand on it just to get it in a pocket. I may have even had
something like this many years ago, but I have not seen anything in
the local shops. Living away from the major metro area is also a large
part of why I have so much trouble finding the good stuff that I need
or want.
Anyway, TIA for any suggestions or comments.
