Well I did it - I got up Winnats Pass on saturday morning, although i had a rather strong headwind and had to stop 3 times in case my heart rate monitor melted! Getting enough momentum going to get my feet clipped back in after a stop was an unexpected challenge, and the use of forearm muscles i never knew I had until the next day was a surprise too! I am also on the lookout for some new brakeshoes as my old ones are scattered around the hill down into Edale :-)
That is one seriously steep hill to climb! How does it compare to the big European Hills (a lot shorter I know)?
Thanks to everyone who helped me plan my ride in the Peak District - in the end I started from Castleton, up the Winnats Pass, then on to Edale and Hope etc and back to Castleton. Not far but an eduction to someone from Norfolk!

LOL, so did I .. though we'd just come out of the Speedwell Cavern and drove up in the Landrover ... 😉 Then had a great day driving across the tops on miles and miles of 'Green Lanes'.
Had a great time riding some of the downhills though .. I don't 'do' uphills anymore, nackered knees .. 😉

While you were coming up Winnats Pass, I was further along the road at the top, at the side of the road stripping off to get changed into caving gear (to go down Oxlow Cavern which is near the junction at the top of the Pass) - I think you were probably a LOT warmer than I was! ;-)
