Lets say I wanted to build up a 56cm singlespeed road bike for commuting using something fairly cheap from the 70's/80's/90's. Steel or aluminium frame. Must suit 700C wheels and I guess the more modern the drop-out spacing (135mm), the easier it would be to find wheels to suit?
Prefer a whole bike to strip down but could do with a frame to start.
I could go for something new from Condor, On-One or Surly (to name a few) but the cheaper the better, hence the interest in second hand stuff.
My problem so far is that ebay kit frequently sells for too much and is either quite new and expensive or 27" wheeled and rusting in someone's yard. I've started looking through Cycling Weekly and Cycling+ for more road racing oriented stuff but still no luck.
Is there somewhere else (pref. in London) I should be looking for frames/bikes that match this setup? A secret place where all the cool, old bikes go that I don't know about?
Oh, I'm also looking for a 'normal' 56cm race bike (~Ultegra spec.) if you have one of those lying around..
