It's been a while since I had any cycling conversation to add to the group.
I had a long chat with the insurance company's doctor today, not about the collision of June but about cycling in general etc. etc.. During the conversation I asked him what he thought about cycle helmets and if the wearing of one was a factor in assessing claims? His reply was frank,
" I doubt they make any real difference, they might protect you from a minor scratch or graze but nothing much more, they increase the size of the head and are probably more likely to cause a neck injury than not wearing one..."
As to assessing claims it made no difference to his recommendation either way, offering no measurable benefit and with no empirical proof of either camp it was " not a factor I consider."

I don't know if the doctor would be willing to go on-the-record, or partially on-the-record via cyclehelmets.org.
The opinions of a doctor working for the insurance industry, whose recommendations set insurance company behaviour, are very useful for other people who may face claims.
If so, Guy would probably be the best contact point.
