Will that give an even more equal left/right spoke tension, or is it likely to overcompensate? (say, for a 9-spd shimano)
(Yes, I know, it is possible to build a perfectly good wheel using 36h, 3X and same type of spokes right/left - but there is a quiet sense of entertainment in trying different methods)

Tension will be the same. Thinner left side spokes will stretch more which I think is good. I build them that way quite a bit on both Aerohead OC and Synergy OC. I think it nearly equalizes the amount of stretch on Drive Side Vs. Non-Drive side spokes. Since spokes work only in tension to support the rim, the increased stretch on the NDS will allow them to stay in tension over a larger range of dynamic wheel loads.

I've built one wheel with DT Rev(2.0/1.5/2.0), radial, heads out NDS and DT Alpine(2.3/1.8/2.0) 3X on DS and was very happy with the result on a symmetric rim. Thought I'd go for something else this time.
