There was a thread on here recently about the internet based phone service, VoIP. Seems that they are having trouble with 911 service and are being ordered to do something about it.
Can't be any worse than cellular 911 use. I called 911 on a cell phone, by the time I answered my 20 questions and was connected to a real 911 operator there was no longer an emergency...the robber was LONG gone...

With Vonage, you simply set up your address in your account with them. Then if you call 911, that call is routed to the appropriate 911 call center in your area. I don't know about other VOIP services. I guess the problem would be if you didn't set it up. One lady in Florida has a problem because she's too stupid to set up her 911 info, and we need National legislation.
