  1. I know I've taken some stick on this NG for posting useless bits of
equipment, that don't fully conform to the free weights ethos, but take a
look at this, it really takes the prize. I've never seen anything like this
before. (And before you start, no I'm not asking if it's a good idea, or if
I should buy it with my oh so terribly limited resources!)

I've seen these, they're the predecessors to the 45 degree leg press. My
high school gym had one. Not nice on the lower back.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

The local YMCA has a photo that must be circa 1940's or so based on the
people's clothes. In it a young man is being coached on using one of
    these things.

Oh god! I LOVED that thing when my gym had one!
Never had more sore legs in my life than when I used it. :-)
Had a really high CPK level too. <lol>

Don't know if it's really any better than squats, (probably not) but I
    really miss it.
