I have a question about training rides from NYC. I've been on the way to Yankee games and have seen a massive amount of cyclist crossing the GWB in both directions, and I have always wonderd where are they going or coming from. A friend of mine who lives in the city and just started riding was telling me he heard somehting about riding to Nyack. Have any of you done this ride before?

Hi -- I live in NYC, and over the GWB is just one of many great rides in and around the city. The absolute first thing any NYC cyclist should do is get the great free city cycling map that the department of transportation puts out (or maybe it's department of planning?) The map is available for free at many local bike shops or directly from the city (www.nyc.gov) and shows all bike paths, streets with bike lanes, and streets "recommended" for bike travel. It also has information about bridge crossing rules and how the heck to find the access points for the bike lanes on various bridges. The book "Bike Rides in and Around New York City" is also a great resource.
The ride to Nyack is very popular, but we have also enjoyed the ride around Jamaica Bay, the ride along the harbor in Brooklyn to Coney Island and back on the Ocean Parkway bike path, riding over the GWB and down River Road in NJ to Bayonne and over the Bayonne Bridge to Staten Island and then home on the SI Ferry. Get that map and you'll be well on your way --
