I am heading to NYC for about 4 days next week. I hear that the bike path along the Hudson River is pretty nice. I can bring my helmet, shoes and pedals. Where do you suggest I rent a nice road bike with 105 or better componets?

I've never rented a bike before but here are a few choices:
If you're going to have a decent machine you might want to go on a more challenging ride rather than dodge baby strollers and rollerbladers along the Hudson (although it is a nice ride much of the route is shared with pedestrians and it's not advisable or considerate to ride at more than a leisurely pace) so check out some of these routes:

If you'd rather not take a chance on getting lost an even better place to ride fast is the circuit around Central Park (Park Drive) on weekdays. The road is closed to traffic on weekdays from 10am-3pm and 7pm - 10pm, and from Friday night at 7pm until Monday morning at 6am. It can get pretty congested on weekends but it's a great place for a workout ride (10k lap) when everyone else is stuck in an office.
