  1. We went out for a family ride today to Nuffield Place near Huntercombe, home of the late
    Lord Nuffield.

As a young man, Bill Morris was a gifted racing cyclist, was Berks, Bucks & Oxon champion, and his
first business was a cycle shop run from his mother's front parlour. He met his wife in the local
cycle club, and she remained a keen cyclist until her mid sixties.

Nuffield Place is well worth a visit. Nuffield had an inate distrust of ostentation and even went so
far as to mend his own shoes. In his surprisingly modest bedroom is a cupboard full of tools and
odds and ends he used in his hobby of clock and watch mending.
