  1. I've been wanting to get out more and I live in a city (Eugene, OR) that has a good number of bike trails so I've been looking at mountain bikes. I want a value bike that won't fall apart on me in the $250 range. Any suggestions? I've been looking at Giant Boulder SE, Trek 820/3700/4300, Specialized Hardrock, etc. I'm told the Mongoose XR 200 would not be a good choice heh. Thanks for any help. I spent time searching but I had trouble finding advice in the lower price range.

  2. What are the trails like? Are they really offroad, packed limestone...? The Boulder SE is a decent bike, although it can't/shouldn't be used for hardcore mountain biking. Don't know too much about the others.

  3. I have a buddy that has a Gary Fisher that cost him a little under $300 and it's been great so far. You might take a look at them too.

  4. Gary Fisher is a good bike and the Trek 4300 if you are not going on extreme off road.I have a 4300 presently and it is a good bike for rough roads and moderate trails.

  5. I'm really leaning towards the Trek 4300. I figure that would give a good start and allow a little upgrading. The only complaints I really hear on it is the shock and the seat. Does this sound like my best option in this price range?
