I have for the past year been using TYR Jammers a tight fitting lycra = like 3/4 length, draw string
swimming short. They are great, dry fast = and are very comfortable. At $30 a pair at most multi
sport shops they = are a bargain. I use the all black ones.

  2. Here are some rowing shorts that have a fleece panel in the _seat_ (not to be confused with the
crotch location in traditional bike shorts). I just came across these on the TE list. I ordered a
pair, have tried them on, but haven't used them yet. IMHO sizes run small.

The fleece bit isn't really a pad, just a bit thicker layer of wicking material to keep moisture
    away from your skin.
