  1. Hello,

I have a brand new bike equipped with a rear Nexus 7 speed hub ( not the one whith roller brakes ).
It's only one month old, and it's making funny noises. Not the usual clicking noise in gear 6/7, but
a more worrying squeeking noise in gear 5 ( and gear five only ). It squeeks as if the hub was
lacking of oil... which is quite weird for a one month old part supposed to be low maintenance...

Any suggestion / similar experience ?

    Thanks !

    LZO

Take it back to the dealer. Shimano is very good about warranty coverage for these.

I have about a 3 month old nexus-7 with a similar story: Squeaks developed in gears 3-7. If the bike
was not ridden the squeaks go away, but they returned with frequent riding, eg: on the second half
of my home commute. I dropped itoff at my LBS (when I went on vacation). I demonstrated it to them
when I dropped it off, but by the time they got to it the squeak was gone again, so they "adjusted"
it, and gave it back to me.

After 3 weeks of vacation, and one week of riding, (40 min/day commute), the squeak has not
returned, but I'm not convinced it's fixed, maybe just hibernating.

Is there any likely fix for this short of dis-assembly and re-lubrication?

BTW: Other than this, I'm enjoying the casual attitude of bike it is on, a Bianchi Milano. I notice
that this year's model is even sensible enough to include fenders and a kickstand.

I eventually phoned Shimano... The tech guy told the noise was *erm* not normal... He suggested me
to drop the bike at my LBS... not for fixing, but for him to send the wheel to Shimano... so they
can test it. He also told me not to open the hub, not to try to grease it, nor even to trust my LBS
for any fixing operation. " Just send the wheel to us" were his only words...

Well... I'm going to do this...
