I'm 38, in relatively good shape, run and surf occasionally, and have a MTB somewhere. I am
well-rounded athletically having participated in most sports.
2 years ago, I regularly ran 15-20 miles per week, 5 miles/outing. I'm occasionally running 2
miles/outing now at an 8 minute pace. I am a strong swimmer with pitiful technique. I believe I
could complete a sprint tomorrow. Instead, I intend to work toward some stronger goal than
completion.
BTW, I share time between NC & NJ, with NC being my home.
Here's what I'm thinking for my first tri.
Equipment Bike - MTB Shimano Diore XT, Biopace crank. Probably time for a new crank and I'll add
some road wheels/tires. My color-coordinated-helmet and seat may get replaced, too. Or, I might just
by an entry-level road bike.
Swim - "Speedo Jammer" type shorts. Decent goggles. I don't need a cap 🙂
Run - My trusty Brooks, some pair of decent shorts and a shirt and a cap - because I need one.
TRAINING -Biking/Running - This shouldn't be a problem in either location. I'll likely use a
stationary bike at the apt. fitness center in NJ. -Swimming - First, I need lessons and a pool - any
recommendations in Raleigh, NC are welcome. Second, I need to figure out how to get this into my
schedule when I'm away.
DIET I typically watch what goes into my body. Sometimes I watch the wrong thing but I'm at least
aware of it. Anyway, I would happily have the same thing - especially if it's quick - for my first
thee meals of the day. I'd like to reserve dinner for lavish feasts...just kidding. Since time is
the enemy of my days, I'm more than willing to purchase cases of whatever freaky sports/nutrition
drinks anyone might recommend.
In short, I'd like to incorporate as much of this into my daily routine as possible. I need to train
as much as possible in the mornings from a discipline & time standpoint.
Thanks!
a.
PS If any of you are in the Raleigh area, I would like to meet you & hear any future race
recommendations.
