Ow. Wait a minute. That guy says the "current climbing record"
for a year is an average of 1202 vertical feet per day.
Leaving aside the silliness of making a record for this,
that's absurd. Until I moved a few months ago, my commute
from Santa Cruz up to UCSC was 800 vertical feet per day -
over a year, that's 50% of the so-called record without even
counting extra mileage or rides on weekends. And I am just an
average schlub who can't keep up in real races when they go
uphill. Not to mention every bearded fiftyish engineering prof
riding a 1970s ten-speed to UCSC is also within 50% of the
    "record."

Given that, how much climbing do you suppose a guy like Horner
does in a year? If whats-his-name doesn't break this "record"
he should retire the HRM and take up something useful -
buy some panniers and do a little bike touring with Jobst,
    perhaps.

    Cat 3/4 races?

There's about a billion "rider diaries" on cyclingnews, velonews et.
al. and you want us to read your Cat 3/4 diary?

Let me say this: your website sucks.

i wasn't going to look but then i heard that there were puppies...

but anyways, his website doesn't suck. i can see why not everyone would
be interested, but on other groups i read, people post their sites that
are "similar", and it's a normal thing. it would be shocking for someone
to reply like you, lol...maybe because most of those readers are women, dunno.

Ben, that's precisely why I ridiculed his website and his so-called
"record". I have friends that easily climb more than this and they don't
self promote at all. Anyway, after hitting <send> I immediately regretted it
as being too harsh ...there are worse things to do with one's time than
climb. Then I googled him and found out that he helps diabetics with
exercise and nutrition and stuff so he may be a perfectly nice guy.
Unfortunately, next time I blow by him on a climb, he'll probably knock me
    on my ass.

I'm sure he is a good guy. Probably the OP of this thread is also a
good guy. There are indeed worse things to do with one's time than
climb, or write training reports for Cat 3/4 races. That's why here
in RBR our role is at most to poke a little fun at people when they
go overboard - I mean, we aren't following them around yelling "Get off

the road." At least I'm not. Should anybody except Kunich take RBR
    abuse real seriously? Anybody? Bueller?

Giving it or taking it? There have been a few on both sides over the
years, but its only fun when you have at least one of each at the same
    time.

  18. I didn't think I'd get this kind of backlash.

First of all, I'd like to point out that I'm not training for 3/4 races. I'm
training for Pro/1/2 races. And I'm not training to be packfill. I didn't
rearrange and severely cut down my work schedule to the point where I have
more time to train than a pro. Most of you have probably been in your fair
share of crashes, but how many of you have been forced off road with 200
meters to go and crashed into a tree at 30mph and still devoted yourself to
    racing.

I gotta say that I've had that e-mail address for 5 years when cycling was
exposed to me from Armstrong's wins.

If you don't want to read the site then don't. I myself like to read race
reports whether they be Paris-Roubaix or Prospect Park. I'm not looking for
approval from anyone. This is just your opportunity to see the dedication
and progression of a racer that is putting a serious bid into becoming a Pro
racer. And not a 12k dreamer.

I'm not out to win any accident palmares, so I don't know where you
are trying to go with this. When you're up to the level in accidents
that someone like Bobby Phillips has had on track and road, and are
still racing, get back to me.

The second time I used my bag/cell phone way-back-when was to call in
an ambulance for Bobby at a training race, where he put a bar end well
into his chest. He was racing again before the season was that far
underway - mostly waiting for the pneumonia to clear up. I remember
him clanging up the inside line of a crit, his pedal hitting concrete
curb on every stroke, so he really didn't back off any after the
    accident.

My worst accident was probably only a sprained ankle and slightly
busted up knee. The only issue I had with it was it was two weeks
before reporting for basic at Ft. Leonardwood. Frankly, if I had my
choice of racing a bike or double-timing over Ft. Leonardwood gravel
with a field pack with a twisted ankle, I would take the bike
    racing...

If my daughter sees your website she'll bug me for a puppy, so I won't
be viewing it from home. They look like Rotties--are they?
My guess is I've seen you flashing by in Prospect Park. Have a good
    year/season.
