Norm Alvis set a new US hour record for the 30-34 age group, traveling 51.505 km in Colorado Springs over 7 years ago.
Hein Verbruggen admitted that the retroactive nature of the attempt was unusual, but since Alvis was 34 at the time he feels the record should stand. "To disallow the record because of some silly disclaimer like pro or non-pro would not uphold the dignity of the event. And as you know, I'm all over dignity like flies over [censored]", the UCI head stated from Switzerland.
