Time to make it loook different, to imply it's 'better' somehow than
the 6500 hubs. The innards are the same as 6500, the shell is just
different.

Cuz 105 9s is not 10s yet(is for 2006). In fact, the 105(and Tiagra and
Sora as well) are 8/9/10s compatible. The only non compatible hub from
shimano made today is the 7800, DA 10s rear hub, which is 10s ONLY.

Presumably same stiffness with less metal so lower weight.

Because 105 has never had a 10 speed cassette yet and Ultegra has. The '06
105 lineup hub will be more or less the same hub with a 10sp compatibility
voucher attached.
