New to racing and never really paid attention to what was going on inside my body as I rode. I'm gonna buy a HRM, but can someone please tell me how to find out what my max HR is?

I don't know about anybody else but I have done several stress tests. One during spinning class. It takes about 30 or so minutes to warm up and then just "hit it!"
Also out on some hills on the bike.
I did this a few times throughout the month to nail it down and the tests were all consistant.
