Here's a question . . . I'm a 200lb rider, riding entirely on pavement. I ride a 2001 Trek 2300. The current tires are Continental Ultra 3000's. I have more than 500 miles on these tires. There are a few small cuts here and there, but nothing that's gone through. Both tires are worn pretty smooth, but the back tire especially is worn flat down the middle (from winters in the stationary trainer -- which incidentally, means the back tire probably has a lot more wear than the front . . .).
How long can you ride a pair of tires? Cash is pretty tight right now, and I don't want to replace them if I don't need to. I also don't want to be riding on something that's becoming unsafe either.
Your thoughts either way . . . thanks for the help.
I have more than 1,500 miles on my Michelin Pro Race 700X23s this year, and they are still in great shape. The Conti's you mentioned are in an equal class of quality. 2,000-2,500 miles is possible, and certainly 1,000-1,500.
Well . . . the cycling gods have precluded this discussion. It seems my riding karma ran out this afternoon; I had a small stone go clean through the back tire, puncturing the tube and cutting the tire clean through. Oh well. It had been almost five months since the last time I flatted.
I'm off to the LBS tomorrow to take a look at new tires. I've read that the Conti Ultra 3000's I had have been discontinued. I'm trying to choose between Conti and a few others. I'll post and let you all know what I decide on.
