Could someone please take a moment to bring me up to speed on sealed bottom brackets? I'm about to take delivery on a Specialized Roubaix Elite with my first ever sealed BB. I'd like to know:
-Is there frequent routine maintenance required?
-if so, what would that entail and is this work commonly performed by the non-professional owners?
-I noticed that the carbon crank on the sealed BB did not continue rotating freely after being spun and released by hand for as long as it does with my old Campy alloy crankset and traditional BB. Is that common since the crankset is just so lightweight? In other words, is there so little mass in the crankset that the BB lube and chain lube are the only friction forces remaining and the crank arms are not heavy enough to keep it all spinning longer? Maybe the freewheel, chain, and derailler guides are also still tight from recent manufacture.
-Should I expect the crank to begin spinning more freely within a short while?
