    Morning,

    I've had a really, really nice mountain bike for a long time, but am looking to get into road cycling. (And I don't want to convert my current bike, as every path around here is much better suited for mountain bikes.)

    I've tested out Giant, Trek, Fuji, Specialized, and Cannondale road bikes, and found that I preferred the fit on the Cannondale, Trek, and Giant. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Cannondale Synanpse Alloy 7 (2011) or the Trek 1.5 (2011). I'm not looking to spend more than 1k at this point.

    Any thoughts, or others I should throw into the mix?

    The Trek 1.5 has better components on it, but they are not wildley better and I doubt that you would be able to tell the difference until you have a couple thousand miles on your bike. That is when the lesser components really start to show their age.

    My advice would be for you to test ride both of them and pick out the one that is most comfortable for you. Just make sure that the bike shop is going to do a fitting so that you get the right size bike.

    Considered a Felt F95? (or the F85, which is going for sub-$1000 if you shop around). Slightly more aggressive riding position over the Synapse, but with (very) slightly improved components. There's also the Z100 if you want something more relaxed/endurance focused.

    PS: The main reason I recommend the Felt's is that their Product Manager has a big presence on RBR and there's been good words said about their warranty claims and frame design.
