  1. Hello, was hoping to get some advice about my training plan. First so you know, i do not plan on doing any "races" or if they are I don't plan on competing. I am planning a few century non-races. for this summer.

My goal is not to be be competitive, but yo be healthy and have fun. That said, I realize I am not cycling enough times per week. I lift heavy weights twice a week to maintain some upperbody muscle mass. Of course I realize heavy weightlifting for mass and endurance sports dont go hand in hand, so I elect so me sorta okay at both vs. real good at one or the other.

That said, could you guys take a look at my training plan and comment?

    Thanks.

Currently I am in base training and building my way up.

Sunday: 30 miles today LSD (increasing 2 miles per week, not sure for how long)
    Monday: Heavy weight lifting
Tuesday: 45 minutes LSD(increasing 5 minutes per week until 120 minutes)
    Wednesday:OFF
Thursday:45 minutes LSD (increasing 5 minutes per week until 120 minutes)
    Friday: Heavy weight lifting
Saturday: 45 minutes LSD (increasing 5 minutes per week until 120 minutes)

All of my cycling is occuring at 65-75% MHR, except for on Sundays when I hit some hills.

Basically I was planning on getting my weekday rides to 2 hours, as i increase my weekend ride, then replace some of my weekday rides with some lactate threshold work.

    comments?

    thanks!

  2. When are you planning on doing these centuries? A two mile increase per week will take you 35 weeks to get to the 100 mile distance, which doesn't leave a whole lot of time left in the century season. A common practice for people who are working their way into riding their first long distance ride is to increase distances by about 10% a week. For example:
    Week One: 30 miles
    Week Two: 33 miles
    Week Three: 36.3 miles
    Week Four: 40 miles
    Week Five: 44 miles
    Etc.

You may become bored increasing by only two miles a week and end up realizing that you can progress faster than that. This is, of course, assuming a generally fit aerobic base (even if not cycling specific).

  3. looks a bit too structured... if one day you are feeling good why not putting an extra 20 minutes !
new riders have a lot of open territory for improvement
as long as you feel fresh and motivated

  4. I also agree that you'll probably be able to increase your distance alot quicker. Also your plan is a little to structured, some days you will feel good and some days you will feel bad. You should also look at mixing your sessions up a bit with periods of higher intensity a little further down the track. This thread would probable attract more responses if it was in the cycling training area
