  1. So I've decided I'd like to start riding a bike again. I'll be biking mostly for the exercise and to help lose weight and be active, but also to spend time with my daughter since she always wants to ride and also help get her into exercising and also because I do a lot of shopping near my home and it'd be nice to not have to drive the car all the time. Right now I work too far away to consider taking the bike to work, but down the road that could be an option if my work location changes.

I went to my local bike shop and they said I'd be best suited for a hybrid. I was recommend a Globe Vienna 3 Disc. Since it's last year's model it was marked down to $500 from $700. Is it a good buy? I didn't have a chance to test ride it as I was in my work clothes and my allergies were kicking in pretty bad.

I was hoping to spend a little less, maybe $200 - $300, but then again I really don't know what is a realistic price to be looking for. I'd like to get a good bike and don't mind spending more for it.

When it comes to bikes I'm totally clueless as to what I should be looking for other then it feels comfortable and has 2 wheels and a handle bar. Can anyone help me?

  2. My experience says you would be well advised to think more of fit and comfort than price. Also, you may want to consider a used bike of almost any kind until you get things sorted out. Again, fit and comfort are primary.

Since you don't know what you want a hybrid is probably a good starting point. Later you may want to add to the stable. Or, if not it will sell well.

    Good riding.

  3. Check out the Jamis Coda line. The base model is sold in Portland for $500.
