I'm new to road cycling all together, but grew up on bmx bikes and for a few years did some long hauls(for me), 10-20 miles, on an undersized mountain bike. I went out today and picked up a new road bike that I intend to use for commuting and exercise. It's basically the cheapest thing I could get away with. Felt kinda awkward having to pick up all of my accessories at the same time as buying the bike. I don't have anything with me at the moment as I haven't fully moved down here from northern Illinois yet.
I didn't get any of the pedals/shoes that I'm meaning to purchase yet. I've got abnormally large feet(15 EEE) and couldn't find any at any stores locally, so that search begins tonight online. I'm also meaning to start researching some padded shorts as well. Even my test rides around the store (20 minutes) had me aching in the rear. Any recommendations in those two areas would be greatly appreciated. Well, I know how everyone likes pictures, even crappy cell phone shots, so here's one for everyone. If there's any insight to my accessory shortcomings, I'll gladly take it. Also, if there's anyone in the area that wouldn't mind taking a newbie out to put him through the paces, I'd gladly take that beating as well.
