  1. I only use an MP3 player when running indoors. Which, at the moment, is 25
percent of the time. But I love it when I'm on the treadmill- it helps me
zone out and makes the run much more effortless.

OK, so I'd purchased a 4 GB Philips MP3 player with shock lock protection.
Turns out it only buffered and played a max of 12 songs while running (the
same ones over and over). Piece of [censored] for a product advertised and
    marketed for workouts.

Took it back and bought a Sandisk 4 GB flash memory player. Price wasn't
bad- $179, then the price dropped and I got a refund of the difference
(total spent- $159). Came with fm radio and voice recorder). But the sound
wasn't anywhere near the quality of the I-River I was replacing.

So- decided to take the advice of the rec.running crew and got an IPOD Nano,
2 GB. So far, so good. Sound quality is excellent. Easy to use,
intuitive. Yeah, there's no radio. And the battery is internal. But other
than those drawbacks. I'm happy with the purchase. Tons of accessories
available. Found the perfect armband- Body Glove case and armband.

Thanks for the help! Talked to my running partner and turns out she
received the same black IPOD Nano 2 GB for Christmas as well. So did my
    nephew. Popular product!

    Thanks again,
    Brian
