Norgbear said:Hey everyone! This is my first post here as I have recently taken an interest in cycling. I'm very into fitness and health and I'm looking for a new hobby. I've always liked being on a bike so I figured this would be a nice activity to pick up plus it looks like a hell of a workout. =P
Anyways, I just have a few questions. I'm completely new to this so I'm not entirely sure where to start as far as buying a bike, figuring out where it is acceptable to ride, proper form etc... I've snooped around the forums but I couldn't find any sections for noobies.. maybe I'm blind. Anyways, any help/links/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks! =D
To help you choose a bike, firstly you have to state what you want it for - i.e. are you interested in off roading, or road biking? Also what would your budget be? If it is road biking you want to do i would strongly suggest not getting the all popular "mountain bike" - a trick i fell for, thinking yeah that looks really good... what i didn't realise is that all that extra weight was also going to make it extremely SLOW. Proper road bikes will get you much more speed.
If it is on road biking you wish to do, i would personally suggest a Dawes gyro bike (dont know if you have them over there through) - I have the dawes gyro 300 (cost about £300 if I remember right) - and althrough its not the BEST of the BEST, ive never been happier - Speedy and easy up the hills (kinda) lol. Other people may tell you very different opinions - at the end of the day its for you to decide.
Personally id say its a good entry level bike (but make sure you are fitted to your bike, as getting the wrong bike size may cause back problems and more!)
