Hey, well guys i just bought a new Manitou Sherman Breakout '04 for 200 bucks *500 bucks off incase you dont know* so it was a good deal...but see this fork has about 3 inches more travel then the fork that came stock on my bike and ever at the lowest point its still about 1 inche longer...so heres my problem for anyone who has had this before...know i was reading my manual for my bike looking over the upgrades part and it said that for forks you should buy one with the same length as the stock one...and it says that if you have one to big then it could move/shift the pressure points *if you will* on your frame and that can cause it to break....know i was wondering if this is just an extra percaution the company *Schwinn* is giving me or if the odds of the frame breaking are more likly on a jump landing
*my frame has been sturdy so far of my 2 years owning it...but i also bottom out my fork EVERY time i jump even jumping off a curb....so i thought that a bigger fork would be beeter*
I don't know if I'd worry about a frame failure, but I do know that a super-long fork will change the geometry of the bike - particularly the head and seat tube angles. When I threw a long travel fork on my old bike (that was built in the pre-fork days and thus came with a rigid fork) it caused it to handle like a pig.
Ride it around and see if the handling has been adversely affected by the change, and then you can decide if it's a bad thing. I've never heard of a fork causing a frame failure though.
hey, thanks....but turns out i just got my email back from Schwinn and they told me my new fork will NOT fit my bike...[censored]...well i guess if anyone wants a manitou sherman breakout 2004 let me know
