  1. HI All

I am looking at getting a new Chainset for a Lemond Reno which I have upgraded with a Dura Ace Front and Rear Derailleur, ultegra 11-23 9sp Cassette and Campy Zonda Wheelset.

Getting some Cash from my Parents for Xmas and was looking at investing in a New Chainset - the old stick Suntour 53-39 is lookin a little worse for wear

Anyway, will likely have about £100 (about A$240-ish) to spend - have looked at a Couple of options (FSA Gossamer (not the compact) and an older model Ultegra or DA) but any and all suggestions would be appreciated

Wanted to stick with 53-39 gearing, and something reasonably lightweight and suitable for a 9 speed system would be best. I do have the 10 speed Rear Derailleur, but only 9 sp shifters (Tiagra...Next on the list...but feeling poor right now!)

Am looking to race the bike in 2006 and would like to get it to a reasonably good spec by march/april sort of time

I look forward to hearing suggestions

  2. Phone Shimano on the 1300 number and ask about old stock of FC-6500 9 speed Ultegra cranksets. I know they have triples but don't know about doubles. You will need an Octalink bottom bracket as well.

I just built a bike and chose a Sugino RD7000 30/42/53 9 speed crankset from Greenspeed for about $175, it went straight on the the square drive bottom bracket I already had. Give them a call for a double. 🙂

  3. Thanks for the suggestion - Have managed to source somewhere I can get an Ultegra Double.

Also looked at a new 105 Double - firstly, would this be compatible with my existing 9sp setup, and how do they compare with the older Ultegra or Dura Ace chainsets?

What about a TA Alize check them out at

    www.sjscycles.co.uk

They are expensive but very nice, the photo on the SJS site is actually of
a Zephyr. For an actual photo go to

    http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/alize.asp

FYI Peter White's site is great for the more traditionally oriented cyclist.

TA has a great selection of rings, just a pity they don't make the Zephyr anymore. 110/74 plus a 56 BCD could you ever need more.....
