Im a newb to road bikes, Ill admit it. Ive been mountain biking for around 4 years off and on and I'd like to add something a little different. Anyhow. I think Ive narrowed the bikes im interested in to two. The Cannondale R800 and the Giant OCR Elite. Both are in a similar price range (although if I get the Giant it comes with pedals and a free helmet both of which i need). The Giant seems to come with better components but that Cannondale frame looks nice too. Any suggestions? Im kind of a big guy (230 lbs) I dont know if that would affect anyones recommendation or not. Thanks for any help!

Ugh! That's a tough call. I think you'd best test ride them back-to-back and see if one fits significantly better than the other.
On paper, it's close. I like the Cannondale frame a lot better, but the Giant comes with Ultrgra parts instead of 105.
I think you'll probably be happy with either one. But a few test rides would probably help a lot.

Listen to cydewaze's advice. Ride them both and see what you prefer.
As an Italian I, of course, strongly disapprove of your bike and component shortlist, though! 🙂
Jokes aside, they are both nice bikes, just get what fits you better. Some people seem to say that Cannondales are more rigid and uncomfortable (never ridden a Giant or a Cannondale, so I cannot comment). But then again, there seem to be a lot of riders in this forum riding bikes from these two manufacturers and loving them!

I stay away from anything with an aluminum frame being a big guy also. Aluminum frames tend to be very rigid,and have an absolute fatigue life although for a typical rider this would be many years down the road.
I suggest a steel or titanium(if you've got BIG BUCKS) frame. Trouble is that a high line steel frame bike isn't cheap either.
Fuji makes a steel frame bike which I've seen on Ebay with 105 components for just under $400 new. There is another brand called Mercier with carbon forks and Reynolds tubing in the same price range. While I've never ridden either, they both seem like appealing bikes.
I owned a steel frame Fuji Sagres (1980s) which was a great bike that I just passed along to a friend and which is still going strong.
