Cheers,
I mentioned the new MiniMed pump a couple days ago....now we have one from Animas too.
This is their model IR 1200.
The look is updated nicely, and the display is huge and looks much better, making it easier to read.
They claim it is 992 sq mm in size. Battery life claimed is 6 - 8 weeks but I haven't seen which
type battery is used.
It is listed as waterproof at 12 feet for 24 hours, and has a BG bolus calculator and carb
calculator included. I haven't had one to personally try out yet, but it is encouraging that all the
companies are competing hard to develop improved pumps. Color choices are blue, silver or black, but
the case is not a monotonous single color like the current Animas IR1000, but a three tone shell
which is more rounded on the edges. I thought the IR1000 looked like it designed by the industrial
prototype shop....this one is much more appealing.
The only down side on the Animas that I can see is the insulin reservoir size....only 200 units.
Their unit will download via an IR port. It is not clear to me if this will require the Animas IR
"dongle" that goes to a serial port, or if you can use the IR port on your laptop instead.
I'm not sure on the availability date yet. The Animas web site doesn't have this one listed yet.
Cheers, WCB
