  1. I just finished a 3,500 mile X-country trip. During the ride, I had hand problems like probably everyone does from time to time. I'd just change positions, drop my hand to my side and shake it, or do some on-bike stretches. It didn't last long, and wasn't a concern.

Towards the end of the trip however, and ever since then (two weeks), both my hands have been tingly, especially my ring and pinky fingers. There's no pain to speak of, just slight tingly feeling. Also, my hand strength has been greatly reduced. Trying to spear a piece of lettuce with my fork is difficult, as I can't seem to grip the fork tight enough between my thumb and hand.

I went out for a short ride on my road bike yesterday - first one since finishing my tour. The feel of the un-loaded bike vs loaded was a real eye-opener! The real problem however, was trying to shift my Campagnolo brifters down. Not so much of a problem shifting to a higher rear cog, but shifting down using my index finger was really hard. Again, lack of hand strength.

Reading up on carpal tunnel syndrome, it states that the little fingers are rarely involved, but mine are. I'm not dropping things per se, but if heavy enough, suppose I would.

I wonder if it could be the ulnar nerve, which originates behind the scapula, and involves the last two digits?

    Any thoughts?

    thanks,

    Bob

  2. My thoughts? Go to the doctor. If you're suffering from something two weeks later, why not have a qualified physician determine the problem so you can get it fixed sooner?
